
Marta Benavides is a biologist and an ordained minister who worked with Oscar Romero in community organizing in El Salvador. Her parents were an indigenous healer and a bureaucrat. She grew up Catholic, was recruited to the Baptists, and came to her own theology, which recognizes love as a force and rejects hierarchy.
