Phasing out food and plastic waste in the hospitality sector is possible

Everyone is affected by the impacts of food and plastic waste. But how do we achieve SDG 12?
Join us in New York on 27 September to learn how to reduce food and plastic waste in the hospitality sector. This UNGA side event will showcase the One Planet network as the implementation mechanism for SDG 12 and present strategies, approaches and cases of how to reduce food waste and single-use plastics.

Reducing waste – including of plastic and food – is one of the challenges named in SDG 12. This discussion will present successful initiatives and strategies from those leading on implementation of SDG 12 through the One Planet network.
The event is hosted by three One Planet Network programs: Sustainable Food Systems, Sustainable Tourism and Sustainable Lifestyles and Education. The Sustainable Lifestyle and Education program is co-led by Sweden (through SEI) and Japan (through the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies).
The discussion will build on the resolutions agreed at UNEA 4 under “Promoting sustainable practices and innovative solutions for curbing food loss and waste” and “Innovative pathways to achieve sustainable consumption and production”.
